Healthy Lifestyle Hacks
For many years now, my mom has been encouraging me to do dry scrubbing to help my lymphatic drainage system. However, I have always been very lazy and the whole process of dry scrubbing seemed like too much to add to my skin care routine. However, I started doing an at home IPL Hair Removal Treatment and I needed to exfoliate. So, although I would love to buy those exfoliant scrubs at the supermarket because they smell so good, I wanted to go for something easier, natural, and homemade. After researching I decided to try a Coffee & Sugar Scrub, and honestly I had heard of it before but it was at this time that I was impulsed to try it.
Let me tell you exfoliating is the best thing you can do, and you don't need to buy fancy exfoliaters from the store with tons of different scents, you can do yours at the comfort of your home, on your own time, with your ingredients. All you need is coffee/coffee scrubs, brown sugar, coconut oil and water.
Benefits of Exfoliating
Removes dead skin cells
Unclogs pores
Increases circulation
Promotes collagen
Improves blood circulation and the lymphatic drainage system
Helps reduce cellulite
Enhances skin texture
Prevents acne
Helps reduce amount of ingrown hairs
Reduces appearance of wrinkles
If I haven't mentioned enough reasons why you should start exfoliating, then I don't know when it would be a better time to start then now. Not only will using this scrub for exfoliating help you achieve all those benefits, but whenever you run out you can make more.
How Many Times Should I Exfoliate?
When, you start exfoliating you'll notice your skin become smoother, and even shaving will be easier with less ingrown hairs. However, exfoliating every single day can be exhasuting, not only for your skin but also because this coffee & sugar scrub leaves a mess in a your bathroom sometimes. So, it is recommended that you stick to exfoliating 2-3 times a week, leaving days in between each exfoliation. This way you give your skin cells time to regenerate and keep your skin healthy and glowing. It is also recommended to exfoliate with warm water, this way your pores open and you can have better results. Additionally, if your skin is very sensitive I would recommend to exfoliate only if your skin is feeling up for it, and to be cautious and notice how many times a week is too much or too little for you. I find exfoliating before shaving a good way to control the times I exfoliate, however that ends up being like 2-3 times a week.
Is There Any Downside to Exfoliating?
Although I find that the mess it leaves is the only downside it's worth it, because after exfoliating all you need to do is rinse your shower with the same shower head, and it will come right off preventing it from creating residue in your shower floor, walls, door, curtains, etc.
Summary
Overall, I definitely encourage you to start exfoliating, and trying this scrub. Under this section you will find the recipe and step-by-step tutortial on how to do it. I hopee this scrub works for you as well as it has worked for me, and that you can enojoy all the benefits of exfoliating too.
What Will You Need
Coffee/Coffee scrubs
Brown Sugar
Coconut Oil
Water
How to Make It
First you will need a recipient to mix all the ingredients in
In the recipient add 5 tbsp of coffee, 4 tbsp of brown sugar, and 5 tbsps of coconut oil
Mix this well until combined
Once, combined touch the consistency and most of the time it might be too thick so I would recommend adding water little by little. You want the mix to be a good balance between runny but still thick because if its too thick you'll waste more scrub when exfoliating
Once you have found the right consistency you can store this is a container in your shower, however if you plan to store some of the scrub to have for the future I would recommend storing it in your fridge otherwise it could create mold
Notes
Where do I get the Ingredients?
COFFEE: For the Coffee I normally use a mixture between cheap grounded coffee from the package, and coffee grounds from my french press or Grecca coffee maker
BROWN SUGAR: I just purchase it at the super market, no specific brand
COCONUT OIL: I buy Carrington Farms Coconut Oil which I use for cooking, Oil Pulling, body oils and creams, and making this exfoliating scrub
IMPORTANT: for the coffee I use a mix between cheap grounded coffee from the pacakge and coffee grounds from my coffee machine, I do this to recylce the coffee grounds from the coffee machine and waste less money buying cheap grounded coffee in packages. However, if you don't mind spending money you can do it only with grounded coffee in packages. BUT, you can not choose to only use recycled coffee grounds from your coffee machine, because you will always needs the consistency of the grounded coffee from the package, that has not been mixed with water, to make it a good exfoliating scrub.
